Is it too late in the year for a good barbecue?

By Tom | August 28, 2006

Me, myself and I asked:

I know it’s gettin’ a tad colder and the days are getting shorter, but I’d love to have one more barbecue before the weather gets cold and wet (it doesn’t snow here because I live in coastal California). What’s your experience in barbecuing in various weather conditions?

Terry

it probably would take a bit longer, but who says you can’t grill in the winter time?
i’ve never barbecued in the winter, cause it snows here. but i sure would if it didn’t

now, go and buy your meat and enjoy!

I think it’s a great idea. When we do that out in the midwest in the fall we do this at night and call it a bonfire. You can barbecue and have a bonfire as well. It’s awesome. A bonfire is simply a more appropriate title for the season and infers that there will be warmth available!

It’s never too late for a good barbecue. I live in Washington state and barbecue in the snow every winter.

We BBQ all year long! A couple of years ago right before Christmas we got 33 inches of snow. That didn’t stop us. We just shoveled the snow away from the grill!

Hey, it’s never too late for a barbecue! I like to think of it like they did on the Cosby Show back in the 80′s. There is never a bad time to barbecue, anything and everything can go on the barbecue, and never say nothin’ bad about the barbecue!

Seriously, I’m in Texas and we barbecue all the time. The only time I haven’t is when the road conditions were hazardous from sleet or snow. Then, we have snow parties where you make chili and margaritas and everyone who comes walks and basically hangs out until the weather gets better. In Texas the snow and sleet usually only lasts a day or two.

I just wear a warm hat and gloves and my parka and keep barbecuing all winter long! Doesn’t matter if it’s snowy, as long as the wind isn’t so bad it blows the gas flame out.

I live in So Cal and I can easily say it is NEVER too late for a bbq. I have bbq’ed in the rain before, just pulled the bbq under the patio covering and bbq’ed away.

We call it outdoor cooking or grilling in the winter – BBQ sounds like there will be lawn games or soft ball and beer drinking around the “barbie” and your guest won’t think that’s a great idea below 72 degrees.
