What should I eat at a barbecue?
By Tom | July 10, 2006
Robert asked:
Today I’m going to a barbecue and I want to eat healthy. Is there any way to eat healthy at a barbecue? There will be hot dogs, corn on cob, beans, burgers, ribs, and what ever else they have at barbecues.

Pass on the corn, since it’s just starch & sugar, with the least nutrional value of anything else (wasted calories) …… Eat hamburgers without the bun (or ribs); or hot dogs (if they’re chicken or all beef) …. eat lots of salad and fruit

Just don’t pig out.
Ribs would be OK if you can remove the fat. The corn and beans should be OK.
Take a few skinless chicken portions.

try to get grilled chicken, corn on the cob, a SMALL side of beans, tossed salad, and fruit if they have any. Stay away from potato, egg, and pasta salads, ribs, and rich desserts. Eat light and you can’t go wrong. Besided who wants to be overstuffed on such a nice day? Play some frisbee and burn some calories!

everything sounds OK except the hot dogs.

Will they have a tossed salad?
Most of what you would eat there is ultimately bad for you

They’ll probably have salad – load up on that and go light on the other stuff. Also, most hosts/hostesses appreciate it if you bring a dish with you – you can throw together a fruit salad to bring.

chicken is the only thing, maybe a spoonful of beans and a piece of corn to splurge and water to drink and maybe 1 roll.
