What to wear to a barbecue engagement party?

I’m confused.. I’m invited to an engagement party but it’s a barbecue. It’s a prominent family’s home and I’m kinda torn on how to dress for this because you are supposed to dress nice for an engagement party. But then again it is a barbecue.

   I would wear a really cute, semi-formal sundress. You could add some strappy sandals and nice jewelry to dress it up a bit more….
