Where can i find a grilling grate to cook on a public grill?

By Tom | December 12, 2006

spynonu1968 asked:

I am going to cook on a public grill but I don’t want to use the racks. I also don’t like to use aluminum foil. Does anyone know where I can find some grilling grates?

If you’re worried about hygiene on public grates, there’s nothing to worry about as long as you get a good fire going and let the grate heat up and burn for at least 10-15 minutes. Anything that’s left on the grate will burn off. A good stiff wire BBQ brush will then scrape off the blackened residue.

Good grills can be found at any BBQ store or big hardware store, but a good grill is expensive and a cheap grill is a waste of money. For something makeshift that you can afford to throw away, you can use chicken wire or any other steel mesh. Just make sure it’s not painted or otherwise chemically treated.

If you use something that doesn’t weigh much, be sure it’s well oiled so that your food doesn’t stick and pull the hot grate off the grill when you lift the food.

Home Depot and other Hardware stores have disposable racks made out of aluminum you can just pitch when finnished.

    Found them

They just lay on the existing grill grate.
